Arthur Lopez, known to his family and friends as Art, departed from this Earth on November 5, 2010 at the age of 89. For many years he fought a courageous battle against a debilitating illness, but his feisty (and sometimes cantankerous) spirit never wavered. Born in Ft. Reno, OK, Art was a graduate of Calumet High School. He was very active in sports, lettering in football, track and wrestling. In his adult life he became proficient at bowling, tennis and golf. He later turned his love of golf into his profession by becoming a certified professional golfer, as well as a designer and builder of several public golf courses including his own. In 1966 he designed and owned his own golf course in Porter, OK.

After Art graduated from high school, he attended classes to further his education. However, soon his Country needed him. Art joined the U.S. Army/Air Force serving for 6 1/2 years. He was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, The American Theater Medal, as well as a Commendation Ribbon. Art is a member of that elite group now referred to as "The Greatest Generation".

Art met Joy Thornton in 1962 and they married November 16, 1963. For many years they worked side by side operating their public golf course and pro shop, until illness struck - first Joy, and then Art - forcing them to close down their business completely. Joy predeceased her partner in life in 2008. (LOPEZ, JOY T 01 Nov 1925 - 14 Jul 2008 age 82 (Southlake,Tarrant, TX).

Art lived out the remainder of his days at a Veteran's Care Facility never adjusting to leaving his home - his Tierra Bonita - as he had named it and the golf course. He was always asking to "go home".

He is survived by his three (3) sisters - Mary F. Wood and Bea Aikins of Las Vegas, NV; Birdie Hendrickson of Fairbanks, AK.
Stepdaughter Judith (Jim) Shirey of Texas.
Grandsons Brent Meyer of California, and Ian (Elsie)Shirey and their daughter Brennyn Elisabeth of Texas.
Art also has many nieces, nephews and cousins scattered through out the U.S.

Art is fondly remembered and missed by those who loved him.
Now he is free at last, and at home.
