He was born February 10, 1925 in Minneapolis the son of James and Lois (O'Meara) Mealey. Thomas graduated from Patrick Henry High School and later Metropolitan State University. He served in the US Army from 1943-1946. Thomas married Alyce Hallenberg October 8, 1949 in North Minneapolis at Camden Covenant Church. The couple lived in Michigan and Wisconsin before returning to Minnesota. He served as the mayor and later the city manager in St. Cloud and the city administrator in Hutchinson. In 1975, the couple moved their family to Owatonna where Thomas was the city clerk and treasurer until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of Christ Community Covenant Church, Senior Place, Brooktree Golf Course, VFW and formerly a member of the Robbinsdale City Band. He was also a member of the Owatonna Masonic lodge where he served as lodge Master in 1980, district rep from 1987-1991 and received the Hiram Award in 1994.
Tom enjoyed golfing, reading, history, traveling, and was an avid sports and music fan. He was a state champion cribbage player and won the Steele County senior spelling bee in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He loved spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Num-Num." Tom's great sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Alyce Mealey of Owatonna; daughter, Rebecca Mealey of Rochester; sons, David (and Jane) Mealey of Port Orchard, WA, Bruce (and Chizuru) Mealey of Sasebo, Japan, Richard (and Yoko) Mealey-Ozawa of Boise, ID; 6 grandchildren; brothers, Jim (and Martha) Mealey, Joe (and Anna Marie) Mealey, Mike Mealey, Buster (and Lorraine) Mealey and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Mealey-Hane.
