George Olsson Short was only 4 years old (his brother Billy 2) when their mother Artie Missy George Short died of tuberculosis. Their father Zola Oliver Short married Artie's older sister Goldie Alphy George, who raised the two boys along with two additional children of Zola and Goldie.
George married Mary Catherine Novotony "Mary Cate" and they had two children: Fred Olsson Short (1942-1970) and Susan Catherine Short (Fallen)(1945- ).
They divorced and George married Joan Pampinella in 1964 to whom he was still married at the time of his death.
George was seriously injured during the "Battle of the Bulge" in World War II while in the tank corps. The memoir of his World War II experience has been published in "An Ordinary, Extraordinary Life - George Olsson Short" Blurb press.
