BOBBY LEE SHORT, age 86, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2012.
He was born on August 9, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Zola and goldie Short. He moved to Dallas in 1927 and graduated from Adamson High School. He attended Texas A & M and enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. His two older brothers were already in the Army. Having missed the European war, he served in Japan, where he was part of the first to enter Hiroshima after the bomb. He later described it as the most horrible thing he has ever seen.
After the war, he returned to Texas A & M and graduated in 1948 (class of 1947) with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation he worked for Sun Oil Company for 23 years, and then founded Bob Short & Associated, which he operated for 33 years. With both companies he worked world wide on everu continent except Antarctica. He was active in many Oil & Gas Associations, including AICHE, GPA, NSPS and SPE.
He was an elder and a deacon in the church. He was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers George and Bill Short, sister Betty Bobsin, daughter and son-in-law Ellen Louise Smith and James "Chip" Smith. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Margaret Short, and her children, son Chad Collier of Westland, MI, son Jeff Collier of Dallas, TX, and daughter Laura Collier of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his 1st wife, Mary Ellen Short and their children, daughter Linda Lee Munden (Steve) of Midland, TX, son Stephen Zola Short (Terrie) of Elizabeth, CO, fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren (with one on the way).
A memorial service will be held at Aria Memorial Chapel on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at 1:00 p.m.. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to the Scottish Rite Hospital.
