In 1950, wanting to try a new adventure, Mahlon and Rosemary packed up their two small children, along with Rosemary's mom, dad and her Grandma Cadwallader and took off for New London, Missouri, where they had already purchased the "Shady Rest", which consisted of four cabins, full service gas station and restaurant.
Also available in the restaurant were groceries, fireworks, souvenirs and gifts.
They never once looked back on their decision.
After Mahlon's death, Rosemary continued running the restaurant and has been honored for 60 years in business.
