Neva R. Whitaker, 88, Olney, died at 3:52 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, 1989, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Ill. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 9 in the Memorial Chapel of Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Burl Shinkle presiding. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8 at Summers.
Mrs. Whitaker was born in Lawrence County, Sept. 30, 1901, the daughter of James and Marietta (Catterton) McCarty. She married Lester C. Wingert, July 15, 1922. he preceded her in death March 7, 1937. She then married William D. Whitaker on Nov. 24, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1977.
She was a homemaker and worked at International Shoe Co. She was a member of the Olney Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son Cloyd "Chuck" Wingert, Olney; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Opal) Hataway; and Mrs. Kenneth (Margaret) Petty, Olney; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and sisters, one son, Loren D. "Red" Wingert, and one grandson, Stephen Petty.
