Henry was a laborer from Rutland when he enlisted in the 9th U.S. Infantry, Co. D. on March 30, 1847. He had blue eyes, light hair, a light complexion and was 5'8". He died in a hospital in Mexico City.
In the photo, Henry's stone is on the right and his brother Edward's is on the left. The tops of both are completely gone. Marvel Swan found Henry's stone broken and not very readable in 1955, but was able to read that is said he died in Mexico City. His birthdate also comes from her transcription.
This is almost certainly a cenotaph. It is likely he is one of the soldiers buried in a mass grave at the Mexico City National Cemetery.
