James Thomas "Jimmy" Abell Jr., 83, of Pocomoke City died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Harrison Senior Living in Snow Hill.
Born on June 20, 1927, in Compton, Md., he was a son of the late James and Mary (Davis) Abell Sr.
Jimmy was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Pocomoke City, a member of the American Legion Post 93 in Pocomoke City for 58 years, a member of Ducks Unlimited, a lifetime member of the NRA and he enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years.
After he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, he owned and operated Jimmy's Grocery Store in Pocomoke City, was a poultry farmer for about 20 years, and a contract school bus driver with Worcester County schools for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Marie Abell; a son, James Thomas Abell III and his wife, Joanne; three grandsons, Matthew Thomas Abell and his wife, Michelle, Dale Andrew Abell and his wife, Karen, and Kyle Christian Abell and his wife, Lauren, all of Pocomoke City; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Samuel, Isabelle and Madelyn; and a brother, Wilson Abell, and a sister, Mary Blanche Borman, both of St. Mary's County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe-Dick Abell and Frank Abell.
A funeral service officiated by Father William J. Porter will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Goodwill Methodist Cemetery in Pocomoke City.
