Rev. Lyle Watkins, a 66-year-old resident of Melbourne, died on Thursday, evening, Nov. 18, 2010 in rural Melbourne.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at the Gilman City Baptist Church in Gilman City. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery at Melbourne.
A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton.
Rev. Watkins was born on Oct. 30, 1944 in Melbourne, the son of Olin J. and Mildred K. Perry Watkins. He attended Melbourne grade schools and graduated from Gilman City High School. He graduated from Trenton Junior College with an associate of arts degree in business. He was a life-long resident of Melbourne and owned and operated Watkins Roofing Co. of Gilman City for over 35 years.
Rev. Watkins was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the Better Business Bureau and was president of the Mitchell Cemetery Board.
He was a former member of the Melbourne Baptist Church and currently a member and Pastor of Faith Bible Baptist Church of Trenton.
He was married on Jan. 25, 2009 at Norwood to Jo Ann Tedrick, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by three daughters, Lila Moore and her husband, Tim, of Trenton, Lori Watkins of Trenton, and Karrie Watkins of Trenton; one son, Wes Watkins and his wife, Jill, of Trenton; six step-daughters, Della Carroll and her husband, Paul of Gallatin, Reva Larson of Philpot, KY, Jodie Hudnall and her husband, Gary of Cibolo, TX, Kellie Sethman and her husband, Brooks of Laredo, Sheelia Griffin of Buckner and Cindy Gardner; four step-sons, Rodney Tedrick and his wife, Rhonda of Sturgeon, Jason Tedrick of Trenton, David Gardner and Tim Gardner; three grandchildren; 27 step-grandchildren; and 19 step- great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Watkins; and one brother, Max Watkins
