Nels Nelson, originally Nils Nilsson, was born in Sweden, in Stora Herrestad Socken, Herrestad Härad, Malmöhus Län, Skåne Landskap, the second of nine children born to Nils Olsson and Anna Rasmusdotter.

From the Fergus Falls Daily Journal, Sat., March 17, 1945: Nels Nelson, well-known resident of this city, died this morning at 6 o'clock at St. Luke's hospital. He has been in failing health for the past few months with a heart ailment. He was in his 78th year.

Mr. Nelson was born in Ystad, Skone, Sweden, Oct. 6, 1867, and came to America in 1885. He was a painter by trade and worked for two years in St. Paul and then spent two years in the state of Virginia. From there he went to Chicago, where he worked for twelve years. In 1893 he returned to Sweden for a visit.

From 1900 to 1918 he operated a farm in Eagle Lake township, but from 1919 he has lived in this city.

On Dec. 6, 1926, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Amanda Wahlstrom, who survives him. Also surviving is one brother, Magnus of Denver, and another brother, John, in Sweden. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Nelson was a member of the Augustana Lutheran church here and funeral services will be held there Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Gravesite Details

His stone has a birth year of 1868, but I've used the date from the Swedish church book.
