G-G-GREAT UNCLE

A ray of sunshine came & went
A beautiful treasure only lent
A prayer
A tear
A memory so dear
Each day of our lives We wish you were here

Samuel Ross - There is still opportunity in the older States for the pioneer farmer, as Samuel Ross, of Monticello, Maine, has shown in the course of a highly successful career, provided, of course, that the farmer knows the business, and combines energy and thrift ~ Born in Rockland, Carlston County, New Brunswick, February 26, 1849, son of Daniel and Martha (Foster) Ross, both natives of that Canadian Province ~ Samuel Ross attended the public schools of New Brunswick up to his thirteenth year, and then went to work as a farm boy ~ For a time he was employed near Lincoln, then at Danforth, and at Kingman, Maine, on various farms, and also picked up the particle knowledge of woodcraft and the tanning industry, but his real vocation was the land, and when he attained the age of twenty-four he purchased some unimproved land at Monticello, on the Lake Road, and had cleared it for agriculture purposes, began its cultivation before he had even erected the first of the necessary farm buildings ~ There he lived and worked until a few years ago, when the opportunity came for him to buy the 100-acre tract he now occupies across the road from the original farm ~ This he obtained from Edward Gould heirs, and repeated his former program of bringing the property to the highest point of productiveness ~ He and most of his family attend the Baptist Church ~ He is a Republican, but has been to busy to take a very deep interest in politics ~ Mr. Ross married Euphemia Landers, daughter of Charles and Ann (London) Lauders, of Bridgewater, Maine, and they have six children, the eldest son, Guy, living on the first of the two farms Mr. Ross developed.
