Mrs. Sue McGee, who died at her home, at 3704 Broadway, May 9, 1901, saw Kansas City grow from a little riverside trading point to one of the greatest American cities. She was a sister of Judge Turner A. Gill, formerly on the bench of the Kansas City court of appeals, and their father years before the war "took up" the land where the suburb of Roanoke now stands.
Mrs. McGee was the wife of Allen B. H. McGee, and was 53 years old. Her husband survives her at the advanced age of 82 years. She lived practically all her life on the spot where she died, for the fine residence in which she died stands where the old Gill farmhouse did until several years ago. The increase in the value of his land, caused by the growth of Kansas City, made her father a very wealthy man, and she inherited a large amount of property. She was also connected by blood or marriage with many of the best known and most prominent people of the city. Mrs. William W. Nelson, whose husband built the new Nelson building at the corner of Sixth and Main streets, was her daughter. She had only one other child, Allen McGee, Jr. Both of her children lived at home. Her brothers and sisters, besides Judge Gill, were Enoch Gill, Mrs. M. M. Vincent and Mrs. Hargis, all of whom lived in or near the city. Arrangements for the funeral were held up until her son in law, Mr. W. W. Nelson, who was in Mexico where he had invested a large amount of capital, could be contacted.
