Stavias was a very brave man who had by the age of 27, had fought in three great wars. He served during World War I, and When the war was over in 1918, he along with other soldiers was sent to Russia to fight against the communists that had taken over the country. In 1920 they were taken to Asia Minor to fight against the Turks in the Asia Minor war. He came back to Trypi after having served in the army for nearly ten years.

For a short period of time he was mayor of Sparta.

He married Fotini Tsakonas and had five children:
Katina, Constantine, Georgios, Kalliopi & Spyros.
