ARENZVILLE - Charles A. "Charlie" Menge, 76, of Arenzville died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home.
He was born May 1, 1926, in Beardstown, the son of Frank Zachariah and Lydia Pauline Ring Menge. He married Dorothy Frances LaVelle in 1975 in Virginia. Twin infant children, Jerry Lee and Julie Ann Menge, preceded him in death.
Mr. Menge graduated from Arenzville High School in 1944. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was an engineer for Burlington-Northern Railroad in Beardstown, retiring after 25 years.
He was a member of Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown, Arenzville American Legion Post and several antique car clubs, including Jacksonville Area Antique Car Club, Sangamon Valley Model A Club and DeSoto Motor Cars of Illinois.
Survivors: wife, Dorothy Frances; two sons, Don (wife, Karen) Menge of Beardstown and Bob (wife, Ingrid) Menge of Rantoul; two daughters, Linda (husband, John Wayne) Savage and Tari Logsdon, both of Beards-town; two stepsons, Dennis (wife, Grace) Drummond of Donnellson, Iowa and Duane (wife, Deb) Drummond of Sioux City, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Diana (husband, Dale) Robinson of Jacksonville, Denise (husband, Mark) Parks of Arenzville and Donna Cannon of Griggsville; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; seven step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Walters of Arenzville and Rosemary Floyd of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sager Funeral Home, Beardstown. Burial: Arenzville North Cemetery.
