In Buckingham of lung disease, Mr. Allan Gordon, aged 48 years. Mr. Gordon was born in Paisley, Scotland. At an early age, he came to America, and settled in Norwich, Connecticut. Soon word of Gold discoveries in California, his brother William, went there, returned and with his father, mother, and two sisters, came to Buckingham, Iowa in 1854, where he died in 1859. Allan came here soon after the death of his brother and has since resided on a farm a short distance north of the village. Mr. Gordon has been afflicted with disease for several years. He was a quiet, retiring man and very generally respected, was a member of the Congregational Church, for several years a Trustee also Librarian and Secretary of the Sabbath School. He was also town Trustee for a number of years. He leaves a wife and five or six children. For thirty years it was my fortune to know Mr. Gordon and can drop a tear of sympathy with those who weep. Our old settlers are one by one, dropping out of the march of life, our ranks are growing thinner year by year. Allan “Hail and farewell.”
