James H. Alexander was married to Mary L. Rogers. They had six children: Ernest, Curtis, Bessie, Harry, Flora and Roger.

After being blind 15 years, James H. Alexander, 69 years old and a member of the Christian Church, died at 6 o'clock this morning at his home 3 miles east of the city on the 10th Street Pike. Mr. Alexander was born and raised in Monroe County, was a good citizen and was the son of Jackson Alexander, whose death occurred just 33 ( sic) years ago. He leaves a wife and the following children: Ernest, Curtis, Harry and Roger Alexander, Mrs. Walter Chitwood and Mrs. Otto Binkley, also two sisters--Mrs. Mary Barnhill, this city, and Mrs. Sarah Crafton of Roachdale. Funeral at 2:30 Thursday at Mt. Gilead in charge of Rev. W. H. Smith and Rev. Amzi Atwater. – Bloomington Daily Telephone, 19 April 1916, Page 001
