Mrs. Bessie Knight Caldwell, 88, of Rawley Springs area of Harrisonburg, died at her home Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Caldwell has been in failing health three years and had been ill three days.

She was born in Rockingham County April 20, 1884, and was a daughter of the late Jack and Dellie McDorman Knight.

Mrs. Knight had moved from the Hopkins Gap area to Rawley Springs some 20 years ago. She was a member of the Mennonite Church.

Her husband Hinton Caldwell, died February 17, 1947.

Surviving are four sons, Howard C., Frank and Leonard Caldwell, and Harry Knight, all of Harrisonburg, and stepsons, Robert Caldwell of Mt. Crawford, and Lory Caldwell of Timberville. a step daughter, Mrs. Jack Knight, of Harrisonburg. A sister, Mrs. Sallie Shoemaker, of Singers Glen, four brothers, James Knight of Hinton, and Barney, Jack and Alfred Knight, all of Harrisonburg, nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Clinton Mennonite Church by the Rev. Olin McDorman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
