Daniel was the second born of twelve children to Peter Bankert and Elizabeth Stonesifer. He married Matilda Catherine Hoppe in 1825 in Carroll County, Maryland.
Daniel farmed near Silver Run for many years and was a member of St Mary's Reformed congregation at that place. A few years before his death he moved from the Silver Run area to the vicinity of Bart's Church in Adams County, Pennsylvania near the Pennsylvania Maryland line located between Hanover and Littlestown.
