Pearl and her identical twin, Ruth, were born in San Francisco 27 December 1903, daughters of Oscar E Evans of Wisconsin and Selma Serafia Salstrand of Sweden. Pearl attended business school and worked in various offices in San Francisco and later in Mountain View, California. Beginning in the WWII years, Pearl camped all summer long with her family at Pinecrest by Strawberry Lake for many years where she cooked on a camp stove and kept watch on an extended family bent on fun and more fun. Most who participated in these encampments would admit that it was Pearl who kept it all working for everyone. This summer tradition came to an end in 1951, when Pearl and Roy purchased a small chicken ranch near Mountain View and Pearl dove into her duties of taking care of chickens and eggs. In 1951, Pearl and her husband, Roy, retired to the Mother Lode, spending 2 eventful decades near the small town of Murphys when it was still relatively undiscovered. After Roy died, Pearl remained there by herself for several years, surrounded by her many friends.
