OBIT: Mary H. Smith, 81, of Springfield died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at her residence. She was born June 10, 1919, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Chester and Jeanette Hemphill. She married Thomas C. Smith Jr.; he preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Smith graduated from MacMurray College in 1940 and worked for Harris Bank in Chicago for several years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mary Blackstock Circle of King's Daughters, St. John's Senior Samaritans, Illini Country Club and Sangamo Club.
Survivors: a brother, William Hemphill of Naples, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Services: Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Gordon McLean officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
