Physician, Biochemist. At a young age, Schüssler was fluent in Latin, Greek, French, English, Spanish, and Italian, and after school he earned money by teaching foreign languages. He also worked in the medical field as a healer without a proper education and had disagreements with resident doctors over treatment. Schüssler wanted to be a homeopathic practitioner, but his brother would only help him if he became a legally qualified physician. In 1853, at the age of 32, Schüssler studied medicine at the Universities of Berlin, Paris, Giessen and Prague, obtaining his MD title in two-and-a-half-years. However it wasn’t until 1857, upon completing his education and exams in Germany, that he was able to practice as a doctor. Schüssler published in the ‘General Homeopathic Journal’ in 1873 and his first book, “An Abridged Therapy Based on Physiology and Cellular Pathology’ was published a year later in 1874. His book spread his theory around the world. Schüssler’s method of treatment is called Biochemic Therapy and is an offshoot homeopathy as the twelve salts used were homeopathic medicines, though they are not classified as homeopathic. Schüssler tissue salts are widely used and a successful alternative therapy besides homeopathy and are available as tablets in potencies of 3X, 6X, 12X, 30X and 200X.
