Lewis Fletcher, Traer, Succumbs to Spinal Meningitis.

Lewis Fletcher died at his home in southeast Traer Sunday morning. Death came as a result of an attack of spinal meningitis. Tuesday morning preceding he was taken alarmingly ill and for a few days his temperature was close around 105 while he remained in an unconscious condition. Toward the latter part of the week there seemed to be some improvement and the physician was hopeful of the case. A trained nurse was in charge and all was done that medicine, trained skill and tender care on the part of loved ones could do, but to no avail. Life’s lamp was darkened, never again to shine.

Lewis Fletcher was born in Illinois February 4, 1868. On May 1, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Gates. To them were born four children, Susie Alletta, Wilma Ivenette, Doris Odet, and a baby boy less than four months old named Harvey Alva Lew¬is. Mr. Fletcher was a shorthand graduate of Creston business college, but for reasons known best by himself followed railroading life for a few years, first out of Cedar Rapids, later out of Waterloo. He came to Traer six years ago and has during that time proven himself industrious and worthy the esteem of his fellow citizens. Recently he was appointed to the position of road superintendent of Perry township.

On Tuesday morning a large number of sympathizers followed all that was mortal of this young man to Buckingham cemetery, where interment was made. John Fletcher and sons, Ed and Harvey, father and brothers of deceased, came from Creston to be present at the funeral obsequies
