Ruth Haun grew up in the two-story house located at 2222 W. St. Louis Street in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, and lived in it from about 1917 to the 1970's. The Wichita City Directory indicates that a J. A. Blunn was the first person living at that address in 1912 or 1913. Mr. Blunn's obit (see Findagrave) states that he was Jesse A. Blunn, a contractor/builder, living in Wichita at that time, so it can be speculated that Mr. Blunn built this house.

A photo included here shows initials R. H. and S. H. They are located in a concrete slab located in the backyard of the house next door, 2228 W. St. Louis. It is said this property (2228) was used by the Hiatt family as a garden area and the cement slab was once the floor of their chicken house. In 1956, Gene Barnes and his father built a home at 2228 W. St. Louis for Gene and his family. Probably in the 1960's, Gene built a storage shed over the cement slab. In the 1980's this storage shed was moved, revealing the old R. H., S. H. initials in the concrete which, really, have to stand for Ruth and her younger brother Stanley Hiatt.

After her parents died, Ruth and her husband John Haun continued to live at 2222 W. St. Louis. After John died in 1966, Ruth continued to live there through the early to mid-1970's. Sometime later, the front of the old house received a rock facing remodel by then-owner Jack Arnett. It appears the old house, now exceeding 100 years old, will stand for years to come. I hope it does.

John and Ruth had 3 children, Mary, the oldest, born in 1940, and John and June who were twins born in 1944
