Grace Downs Monroe, 83, of 5635 Marietta Road, New Lexington, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1988, at Good Samaritan Medical Center following an apparent heart attack.

Mrs. Monroe was a lifetime resident of New Lexington and a member of the Baptist faith. She was born Nov. 23, 1904, in the New Lexington area, the daughter of Jake and Sarah Cronin.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Downs, on Feb. 25, 1963; her second husband, William Monroe, on Nov. 23, 1978; one daughter, Betty Campbell; and one son, Richard Downs. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Leona Clapsaddle of Mount Victory; six sons, Jacob Downs of Somerset, Robert Downs of Glouster Route 2, James Downs of Moxahala, Floyd Downs of Lancaster, and Charles Downs and Harry Downs, both of New Lexington; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to time of service Friday at Roberts Funeral Home in New Lexington. Services will be at 1 p.m. Fri-day, Feb. 19, at the funeral home with Rev. William Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Whippstown Cemetery.
