As a young man he attended a country school near Friend and soon thereafter farmed with his father before entering the service. He enlisted into the US Navy and served from 1946-48 and was in the Pacific Theatre. He was united in marriage to Geraldine B. "Gerry" Williamsen on November 16, 1947 in York and to this union daughter, Jilla, and sons, Dudley, Edward and Marvin were born.
Together they started their life farming west of Friend where they were involved with milking cows and raising cattle and hogs. For several years they lived and worked in Missouri, returning to the Friend area in 1987. He was a member of the Friend Christian Assembly.
Donald is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jilla K. and Bill McCullough, Friend, sons and daughters-in-law, Dudley D. and Rose Ann Tuttle, Seward, Edward E. and Diane Tuttle, Dorchester, Marvin R. Tuttle, York and special friend Kristi, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, Brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Cathy Tuttle, Beloit, WI, sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Henry Jauhiainen, Duluth, MN, Joyce Shacklett, Fort Collins, CO, sister-in-laws: Thelma Laschanzky, York, Rosemarie Payne, Ft. Worth TX, Lucille Barton, Omaha, Betsy Reynolds, Denver, CO, Chris (Kay) Anderson, Trenton MO.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gerry in 1997, sisters, Edith Tuttle, Neva Eigsti, Wilmetta Engel, Lois Mortensen, brother, Carl Tuttle, and several sisters-in-law and brother-in-laws.
