Clara Anderson (or Andersdatter) was born in Sweden in 1839. Her father was Anders Larson, but her mother is unknown. She married August Bengtson in 1863. They had 8 children, W. Leonard, Severin Lenus, Axel, Selma Serafia, Alvida Adonna, Albert, Vitales and Jennie Charlotte. They all came to America in the 1880s and August and Clara settled in Shenandoah, Page county, Iowa. In America they used the surname Salstrand. Sadly, Axel died shortly after their arrival in Shenandoah. Clara moved with her husband to Nebraska, Minnesota, and finally Wisconsin where she continued as a farmers' wife. Clara died many years before her husband. W. Leonard and his wife returned to Sweden and have descendants there, but the rest of the children remained in America.
