MRS. HOMER AUSTIN DIES AT HER HOME IN MANTEO - Mrs. Orpha Midgett Austin, 56, wife of Homer Austin of Manteo, died at her home Thursday afternoon [Sept. 27, 1945]. She had been in poor health for some time but became critically ill last Sunday.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Austin was a member of Manteo Rebekah Lodge and the Rebekah funeral ceremony will be used. She was also a member of Mount Olivet Methodist Church in Manteo.
She was the daughter of the late Sallie Ann and George L. Midgett of Manteo. Surviving are her husband; two sons: Homer Austin, Jr., USN, and Willie Austin of Little Creek, VA; five daughters: Mrs. Ralph Jones, Mrs. Sybil Dowdy and Miss Hilda Austin of Manteo, Mrs. Paul Derrickson of Elizabeth City and Mrs. R.H. Gray, Jr. of Wanchese; 8 grandchildren; and four brothers: Hatton Midgett, Orlando Midgett, Loran Midgett of Manteo and George L. Midgett of Nags Head.
