Ann Kroening, 94, a long time resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on December 12, 2010. Ann was born on September 14, 1916 in New Haven, CT, to Alphonse and Josephine Izzo. She is survived by her son Frank Kroening and wife Christine Kroening; daughter Barbara Kroening; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Henry Frank Kroening; her brothers, Joe, John and Mario Izzo; her sisters Rose Izzo, Ruth Kuchko, Annette White and Lee De Feo. Ann grew up in New Haven, CT and worked in a dress shop. She organized a cooking and sewing club with her friends. The group shared recipes and sewing projects such as wedding and bridesmaid dresses when a member married. Ann met her husband in New Haven where he was stationed for training while in the Army. They met on the Yale Green in downtown New Haven on a blind date. They married on May 19, 1945. Ann was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking especially holiday meals for family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards with her canasta and bridge club, collecting antiques, reading, swimming and camping. She loved the outdoors especially the ocean and mountains. She was interested in astronomy and enjoyed gazing at the night sky. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church where she served in the Alter Rosary Society. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she served a term as president of her local chapter. She enjoyed music and traveling with her husband when he played in a polka band. During her later years she loved to sing. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Ann was a loving wife, mother, advisor and friend. She was kind and helpful to all. Ann met life's adversities with strength and courage especially in her last years. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Mass will be Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Parish, 2532 Vermont Street NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, with committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery to follow.
