Adolph Storz, Ex-Brewer, Dies, Age 88

Adolph G. Storz, 88, retired brewer and an internationally prominent sportsman. Died Monday at West Palm Beach, Fla., after a long illness.

Storz was one of two presidents in the 95-year history of the Storz Brewing Co. of Omaha. He served more than 30 years until the company, founded by his father, Gottlieb, who also had been president, was sold in 1966.

He was known throughout North America as a breeder and exhibitor of show horses. His hackney ponies in particular won top prizes in leading shows. Through the brewery, which he operated with other members of the Storz family, he also sponsored some of the best known, amateur and semi-professional basketball and baseball teams in the Midwest.

Storz was related by marriage to two other prominent families. His first wife, Mary Josephine Hayden Storz, who died in 1960, was the daughter of Edward Hayden, founder of the former Hayden Brothers Department Store. The business was located in the building which is now occupied by the downtown J.C. Penney store.

Two years ago, he married , Elinor Anheuser, member of a well-known St. Louis brewing family.

Survivors include Mrs. Storz, who resides in West Palm Beach; a son, Adolph Hayden Storz; two brothers, Arthur C. Sr. and Robert H. Storz, and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Storz, all of Omaha.
