James W. Dodd JAMES W. DODD, 84, joined his wife of 61 years, Grace, in heaven on July 25, 2004 after a short battle with cancer. Jim was born April 3, 1920 in Terrell County, Texas. He played football at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. for 2 years. With the onset of WWII, he joined the U.S. Army Aircorps and piloted a B25 in the Philippines on 54 missions. Returning home in 1945, he and Grace started a family and created a life together. Jim was a 1950 graduate of Baylor University having earned his degree in accounting. He worked as a federal bank auditor before starting a career as manager of Houston Telephone Federal Credit Union in 1951. During his 43 years at the credit union, he had many professional responsibilities which included The Texas Credit Union League, and The National Credit Union Administration Board. His love for the credit union, his respect for his fellow associates, and the desire to develop numerous advancements in the industry earned him the admiration of his peers. Retiring at 74 from Communicators Federal Credit Union, Jim dedicated the next 10 years to taking care of his beloved Grace. He will be greatly missed, but the memory of a quiet, gentle man of integrity who led by example, will always be in the lives of the people he touched. He left behind a family that is grieving, but at peace with his homecoming. He is survived by his children, James Brent Dodd and wife Judy, and daughter, Leslye Dodd and husband Don Anderson; granddaughter, Tammy Childers and husband Steve; great-grandchildren, Randy and Lauren Hurley; sister, Christine Ellis; and many loving nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors, 3320 Kirby Drive. A private graveside service and committal will be held in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, with the Rev. Gary Ferbet, officiating. Jim's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him by Shirley, Ollie, Laneicia, and the staff at Bellmont Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Children's Fund, 2821 Emerywood Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294.
