Born April 29, 1932, in Harrisburg, Ill., to Herman Lawn Thurston and Eunice Hazel Malone Thurston, he married Jurline Shadowens on May 18, 1955, in Paulton, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Franklin Deon (Sherry) Thurston of Washington, Kenneth (Kimberly) Thurston of East Peoria and Rodney L. (Dawn) Thurston of Washington; one daughter, Sandra Kay (Russell) Dirks of Washington; and five grandchildren, Tera, Shannon, Nathan, Mackenzie and Noah.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Baker.
Frank was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He worked for Caterpillar as a welder at the Mapleton plant for 43 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington.
Frank's years of hard work at Caterpillar enabled him to provide a good life for his family. He made cherished memories through the years of vacations, camping, fishing, hunting, fast cars, driving lessons and other lessons of life, including respect, hard work and the importance of faith.
He was very proud of his wife, children and grandchildren.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
