Major League Baseball Player. He was the last living player to have played against the legendary Babe Ruth in a major league baseball game. Cavarretta began his baseball career with the Chicago Cubs on September 16, 1934, and spent 20 seasons with them, playing first base and the outfield. He was the 1945 National League Most Valuable Player, with a .355 batting average. He also managed the Chicago Cubs from 1951 through 1953. He ended his baseball career with a .293 batting average, 1,977 hits, 95 home runs, and 920 runs batted in. He was four-time selection to the National League All-Star team (1944 through 1947). He ended his baseball career with the Chicago White Sox in 1955. He died of complications from a stroke.
