WILLIAM H. FOLSOM
DEAD
William H. Folsom died this morning at his home, 520 State Street, of
heart trouble. Arrangements for the funeral will not been made until some of the
relatives are heard from. The services will be conducted by the Rev. James A.
Brown, of the First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery,
with full military honors conducted by the Grand Army.
William H. Folsom was
born in Elizabethtown, Tenn., December 11, 1847. He was married December 12,
1865, to Miss Loyette Hilton, in Elizabethtown. He came overland to Kansas and
settled in Emporia, in May, 1877. He is survived by Mrs. Folsom, two sons and
two daughters. The children are J. S. Folsom, of Winslow, Ariz.; Frank Folsom,
of Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Chester Martindale, of Emporia, and Mrs. E. A.
Pearce, of Beloit. He is survived by three brothers, Thomas and Lark, who have
not been heard from for many years, and Brian, who lives in California; two
sisters in Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Elliott, in Elizabethtown,
Tenn.
Mr. Folsom had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since a
youth. He enlisted in the Thirteenth Tennessee Cavalry in 1863, and was given an
honorable discharge in September, 1865. He joined the G.A.R. May 22,
1886.
Mr. Folsom's long residence in Emporia had given him a wide
acquaintance, and he was honored and respected by hundreds of friends. His death
will be deeply felt by his many close friends, as well as by his family. He was
a good man and a good citizen.<<
