Catherine Carlton Gambill, 79 died Friday morning following a brief illness. Mrs. Gambill was a native of Hawthorne, FL and had been a resident of Green Cove Springs for over 50 years. She retired from Clay County School Board after 40 years of service in 1993 where she was a teacher and librarian. Her church membership was at the First United Methodist Church of Green Cove Springs. Her parents were the late John Thomas Carlton, Sr. and Dorothy Kea Carlton. Survivors include her husband of 57 years Odie Gambill, 1 son Russell (Cecilia) Gambill, 3 daughters Anne-Marie (Danny) Neel, Janice (Ernie) Townsend and Brenda (Ernie) May, 2 brothers Paul Carlton and William A. Carlton, 2 sisters Elizabeth Tillman and Marie Carlton, 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her siblings, J.T. Carlton, Jr., Anne Chamberlin and Kea Carlton, and her son Thomas Gambill. Funeral Services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, December 28, 2010, in the First United Methodist Church of Green Cove Springs with Dr. Frank Seghers officiating. Mr. Jimmy Weeks will assist in song. Burial will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery of Green Cove Springs. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery and Funeral Home, 2315 Sandridge Road, Green Cove Springs, FL.
