Rhythm and Blues Singer. He was a member of the 1970s R&B group "Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes." Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wilson's parents died when he was a child leaving him to be raised by his grandmother. He left school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in entertainment, and in 1972 joined the already established Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, which included Teddy Pendergrass, Lawrence Brown, Lloyd Parks and Harold Melvin. After signing with the Gamble and Huff record label Philadelphia International (with Wilson singing baritone), they emerged as a leading group of what became known as "The Philadelphia Sound", hitting their peak commercially with the gold records "If You Don't Know Me By Now" (reaching number 3 in 1972), "The Love I Lost" (reaching number 7 in 1973), and the top 20 songs "Bad Luck" (1975) and their signature score "Wake Up Everybody" (1975). Wilson departed in 1977, but remained an active performer.
