Giuseppe Furina was found weighted down in the Murrumbidgee River near Griffith on May 6, 1984 with his brother-in-law Rocco Medici. Both men had apparently been tortured. The killings were thought to be part of the struggle for control of the Queen Victoria Market and a revenge for the attempted assassination of Liborio Benvenuto.
