Dave was the son of Dr. Winthrop and Louisa (Hoyer) Dyer. He grew to adulthood in San Pasqual Valley.
While he was still in his youth, his father became sick and went to live in the soldiers home in Los Angeles. Dave helped to support the family by working for other ranchers in the valley.
He went to find work during the depression and ended up in Los Angeles. There he would spend the rest of his life.
He never married and the last years of his life were spent in a rest home.
