DEATH OF MRS. AMANDA CURTIS

Mrs. Amanda Curtis, of this city, widow of H. G. Curtis, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 23, 1929, at six o'clock, at her apartment in Ottumwa where she and her daughter, Laura, had gone to spend the winter while the latter taught in the Ottumwa schools.

She had been in failing health for over a year, but recently had apparently been somewhat improved. Pneumonia developed last Saturday and she sank rapidly until the end came. Her husband passed away many years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Laura.

The remains were brought to Chariton Tuesday morning and taken to the family home in north Chariton, where funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. L. Stone, after which interment took place in the Chariton cemetery.

Amanda Harris, daughter of Edward and Martha Harris, was born February 2, 1848, in Belmont county, Ohio, and died at Ottumws, Iowa, September 23, 1929, aged 81 years, 7 months and 21 days.

She was united in marriage to Henley G. Curtis on February 9, 1887, in Belmont county, Ohio. One child, Laura Curtis, came to bless their home. Immediately after their marriage they came to Iowa and located on a farm 3 miles southwest of Chariton. The family moved to Chariton in 1896, where Mr. Curtis was employed for many years in the office of County Treasurer. He passed to his reward in 1903.

Upon taking up her residence in Chariton, Mrs. Curtis transferred her membership to the First Methodist Church and has continued to be a faithful member through the years. She was a good woman, and to know her was to admire her for her many fine traits of character.

She leaves, to await the glad reunion in that eternal home, the daughter, two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Patterson, of Bethesda, Ohio, and Miss Nancy Harris, of Barnesville, Ohio, also many other relatives, and to these grief stricken ones the sympathy of this community will be extended.
