Lyd was the second daughter of John Bargar and Eliza Ann Gatchell, and named for her grandmother, Lydia Workman Gatchell. She married at home in 1857 to Henry "Hank" R. Ripley. In 1879, they sold her share of her father's land from his estate to her brother, Will, for $600. She was the mother of Adolphus, Frank, Mary (Groves), Agnes (Beal Romig), Romaine (Furney), Ivah (Sproul Davis), and Cora. Lyd and her sister, Mary, quilted their entire lives and made many for their brothers and the local boys who went off to fight in the Civil War. She quilted till weeks before she died! She was beloved by all.
