Charles "Henry" Osborne, 83, of Roodhouse died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Jacksonville, the son of Charlie and Eva Brown Osborne. He married Velma Lorene Basham in 1946 in Carrolton. Mr. Osborne was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was a life member of Jacksonville American Legion Post 2079 and a member of White Hall VFW Post. He had worked at Ruckles Pottery in White Hall, Kordite, now Pactiv, in Jacksonville, Rock Island Arsenal for 11 years and MacMurray College. He also was a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1982, and had a bait shop in Roodhouse for many years. Survivors: wife, Velma Lorene; three daughters, Janice Miner of Jacksonville, Kathy (husband, Frank) Tucker of Jerseyville and Diana (husband, Aubrey) Wise of Carlinville; two sons, Michael (wife, Teresa) Osborne and Ricky (wife, Myra) Osborne, both of Roodhouse; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo "Sam" (wife, Doris) Osborne of Roodhouse; and three sisters, Viola Secymore of Milan, Iola Basham of Murrayville and Dorothy (husband, Sam) Jones of Manchester. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse. Burial: Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse.
