Modesta Warren Bennett, 99, of Brunswick, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA. A native of Mendes, GA., born September 2, 1911 to the late Assie Alexander Warren and the late Maggie Melissa Kicklighter Warren. Ms. Bennett had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 87 years. She was an active member of the St. James Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the St. James Lutheran Church, WELCA. Ms. Bennett was also a member of the GA Power Company Ambassadors, IFA Seniors Club, and the AARP. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and cooking. She loved playing games and spending time with her family.

In addition to Ms. Bennett's parents she is also preceded in death by her husband Harry Green Bennett, a brother F. H. (Fritz) Torkildsen, Jr., and her additional parents Fritz Torkildsen, Sr. and Sophie Torkildsen.

She is survived by two daughters Betty Jean McCreery of Montgomery, AL and Barbara Anne Bennett of Brunswick, a brother Carl Torkildsen (wife Ann) of Brunswick., a sister Dena Torkildsen of Brunswick, four grandchildren, three great- grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, also JoAnn Back a long time loving and devoted friend.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Webb officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Henry Klimp, Bubba Olsen, Derrick Cody, Darrel Cody, Joel Cody, Jack McCreery and Warren Dasher. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Trawick, Hal Brown, Fred Coolidge, Whitey Laager, Carl Phillips, Ray Acosta, the GA Power Golden Isles Ambassadors, St. James Lutheran Council, St. James Lutheran Church WELCA.
Family will receive friends Monday, January 3, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Family request memorial contributions be made to St. James Lutheran Church at 2229 Starling Street, Brunswick, GA 31520.
