Samalee Pate - ERWIN

ERWIN — Samalee Pate, age 83, of Erwin, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at his residence.

He was a native of Flag Pond and a son of the late Zeb and Carrie Tipton Pate.

Mr. Pate owned and operated Rock Creek Builders for 35 years. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Erwin.

Mr. Pate was one of the original stock holders and was president and chairman of the board of the original board of directors and was involved in the construction and start up of Valley Funeral Home in 1988.

Mr. Pate was a member of the former Unaka Quartet singing at various Churches and Concerts in the region for 10 to 12 years. He loved Southern Gospel Music and enjoyed playing golf.

Mr. Pate was a former member of the Unicoi County Commission and was a former board member for the Unicoi County Gas Commission.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Pate; brothers, John and Jerry Pate; and half brother, Zeb "Butch" Pate, Jr.

Mr. Pate leaves behind: Wife of 62 years: Louise Miller Pate of Erwin; Son: Larry Pate and wife, Vickie of Unicoi; Daughter: Tina Pate of Unicoi; Brothers, Ford Pate and wife Georgia of Unicoi, James M. Pate and wife Carolyn of Erwin; Sisters: Kathleen Kenney of Erwin, Gladys Adkins of Erwin; Half Sisters: Helen Staub of New Oxford, PA, Nadine Naugle of New Oxford, PA, Jessie Klunk of New Oxford, PA; Half Brother: Albert Pate of Gettysburg, PA; Grandchildren: Casey Pate of Unicoi, Lindsey Stack and husband Dan of Fredericksburg, VA; and Great Grandchildren: Mason Daniel Stack, Madeline Olivia Stack.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM, Monday, January 3, 2011 in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Earl Ragland, Reverend James Hughes and Reverend Marvel "Barney" Hurst will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Larry Pate and by Jamie Hughes.

Visitation with the family will be held at 6:00 PM until service time on Monday in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 100 Old Farm Road, Erwin, TN 37650. Committal services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM at McInturff Cemetery, Erwin.

Pallbearers will be notified.

Those attending the graveside services will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 9:30 AM on Tuesday.

The family would like to extend a special expression of gratitude to Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton for their care and concern.
