MISSOULA – Funeral Mass for early Dixon Elementary School student Anna M. Swartz, 88, of Missoula was celebrated Monday, Feb. 13, at St. Francis Xavier Church with the Rev. Kevin Clarke S.J. officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Swartz died of natural causes Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1995, at Riverside Health Care Center in Missoula.
She was born May 20, 1906, at Florence to Lawrence and Bertha Holden, the oldest of nine children. She spent her early childhood years at Florence, attending school in Dixon.
In 1922, Anna and Roy Swartz were married at Helena. The couple had two children. They lived in Missoula, where Roy worked in the lumber industry.
Anna lived to garden, especially raising a variety of flowers. She was known for helping people when they were ill. She enjoyed her family, playing pinochle and crocheting.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph, Las Vegas, Nev., and Roy, Escondido, Calif.; two brothers, Patrick Holden, Bozeman; three sisters, Bertha Sherick and Sara Healy, both of Spokane, Wash.; and Emma Baid, Plains; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; a brother, Lawrence Holden; and two sisters, Lellia Kangas and Pearl Lamb.
Arrangements were by Squire Simmons & Carr Funeral Home of Missoula.
