Francis Samuel Thomas, Springfield, former employe of the Sangamo Electric Co. and the Illinois Power Co., died yesterday at Springfield hospital. He was 73 years old. Death followed a four week illness.
Mr. Thomas was born at Thomasville, near Virden, and resided in that vicinity until coming to Springfield about twenty years ago. He was a grandson of Samuel Thomas, who settled in what is now Greene county, in 1818.
After fifteen years service with the Sangamo Electric Co., Mr. Thomas retired last spring.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Belle; four daughters, Mrs. Hal Francis and Mrs. Olen T. Deatherage, city; Mrs. J. M. Driscoll, Cleveland, O.; and Mrs. Edwin Scattergood, city; five sons, Ross, Eugene, Neil and Estel, all of this city, and Harold, Palmyra; one brother, Harry O., Virden; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
