Obituary
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in First Pentecostal Church Hall of Melville for Joseph Savant, age 67, who passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his residence in Melville.
Interment will be in First Pentecostal Cemetery. The Rev. Samuel Hamm, pastor of First Pentecostal Church of Melville, will officiate at the services, accompanied by Don Deshotel of Krotz Springs.

Mr. Savant was a native and resident of Melville.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Janice Savant of Melville; one son, Donald Savant and his companion, Sandra, of Melville; one daughter, Darleene Varnado and her husband, Charles, of Ervinville; nine brothers, Daniel Savant and his wife, Shirley, of MO, Johnny "Cheese" Savant and his wife, Geneva, of Melville, John "Baba" Savant and his wife, Joyce, of Melville, Ray "Peanut" Savant and his wife, Velma, of Melville, Jessie "Etzie" Savant and his wife, Marilyn, of IN, Billy Savant and his wife, Melinda, of Baton Rouge, Middleton "Tubby" Savant of MO, Larry Savant and his wife, Pearl, of Venice, LA, and Raymond Savant and his wife, Kathy, of Buras, LA; three sisters, Evelyn Savant and her husband, Homer, of Venice, Ann Savant and her husband, Omar, of Buras, and Aline Savant and her husband, Michael, of Venice; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, D. W. Savant and the former Hazel Dauzat; one brother, Sherline "Bruster" Savant; and one sister, Betty S. "Bonnie" Goutro.

Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road was in charge of arrangements.
