JOHN Q. RUSSELL, was born October 29, 1828 and died December 31, 1897 at the age of sixty-nine years, two months and two days. He was one of a family of six children. Three sisters and one brother survive him. He was born in Susquehanna county, PA., but when a small boy moved to Tioga county, NY where he lived until manhood. Mr. Russell was married to Miss Emeline Johnson of Bradford Co. PA. They came to Carroll Co. IL in 1856, where they have since resided, with the exception of four years in which they lived in Whiteside Co. IL. To Mr. and Mrs. Russell were born four children, one son and three daughters - Mrs. Leila Hubbard, Walter Russell, Walla Walla Wash; Miss Matie Russell of Milledgeville; and Mrs. Emilo Eastabrooks of Milledgeville. Mr. Russell became a member of the Milledgeville Lodge of A.F. and A.M. soon after the formation in 1860 and was ever a loyal and upright member, holding at different times the most of the positions in the gift of the lodge, being for some time its master. He was a man of positive conviction and outspoken in his expressions, aiming always to be on the side of the right. A kind husband, a loving father, a true and upright citizen, a genial friend of all, a genuine lover of children, his presence will long be missed by his family and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, who will ever cherish of him kindly memories. On January 11, 1897, he gave his heart to the Savior and his hand to the church. He was baptized the first day of last October, and on the following Sunday he united with the Methodist church in full membership. From that time he enjoyed the privileges of the church and often expressed himself as being satisfied with the step he had taken. His last days ere truly his best. The funeral services were held Sunday forenoon at the Methodist church, Rev. F.L. Baldwin of Oregon, officiating, assisted by Rev. J.G.B. Shadford. Interment took place in Bethel cemetery. - Contributed by Karen Fyock - Undated Scrapbook Clipping posted at Illinois Genealogy Trails - Carroll County
