Miles Blake, Resident for 50 Years, Dies; Age 74

Miles Blake of 410 North Main street, aged 74 years, who for 50 years was a resident of this city, died at his home at 8 o'clock this forenoon. Death was caused by a complication of maladies. He had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill for seven weeks. As a buyer and seller and butcherer of stock he became generally known throughout this, St. Joseph and Cass counties.

Mr. Blake, who was a son of Jesse and Amanda Blake, was born in Laporte on October 4, 1846. On November 25, 1870, he was married to Miss Margaret Hartford of Laporte and located in Elkhart immediately afterward.

Surviving Mr. Blake are his wife; a son, Jesse Blake of this city; six daughters, Mrs. Tom Searls, Mrs. Fred Robinson, Mrs. Earl Barton and Mrs. Scott Baker of this city, Mrs. Floyd Hudson of Detroit and Mrs. F.C. Detrick of Garrett, Ind., and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Blake recently became a member of St. Vincent's Catholic church.

The funeral service will be held at that church at 9 o'clock Thursday, Rev. F.J. Jansen officiating. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery.
