Services for Mr. R. Kenneth (Paw-Paw) Childress,73, of Lufkin were held Feb. 26, 2009, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Childress was born August 13, 1935, in lufkin, Texas, the son of Mattie (Stone) and Rudolph N. Childress. He passed away Feb. 23, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Childress was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, good friend and loved helping others. He was a 1953 graduate of Lufkin High School and was a member of the Lufkin Panther Band where he played the trumpet. His hobbies included hunting, gospel music, gardening, reading, working puzzles and doing woodwork. He was a member of the NRA. He was employed as a mechanic in the maintenance department at St. Regis/Southland/Champion Paper Mill for 41 years. He was a past president and charter member of the Lufkin Association for retarted Citizens, who were instrumental in getting the Lufkin State School started. He was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class.
