Walter F. Bell, age 91, of Needham, formerly of Chicopee and Holyoke, died on Sunday, January 9, 2011 in Needham. He was born in Millbury MA, son of the late Frank and Ethel (Mann) Bell and was a 1938 graduate of Holyoke High School. Walter was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, and a life member of American Legion Post 351 of Holyoke. Walter was a 35 year Foreman at Ludlow Corporation, retiring in 1983. He had served with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1938 to 1940, and was a member and former officer of the Holyoke Golden Agers. Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ruth E. (Dick) Bell, two daughters: Barbara A. Degon and her husband Steve of Punta Gorda FL, and Kathleen R. Mazza and her husband Robert of Dedham MA, five grandchildren: Michael, Carolyn, Alison, Shaun, and Christine, as well as a great grandson, Charley. Walter was predeceased by his son, Walter F. Bell III in 1996, and his two sisters, Ruth Neumann in 2001 and Helen Boisselle in 1995. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 11:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Saint Jerome Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown MA 02472.
