GULFPORT, Miss. — Mabel Thomas (nee Dixon), 82, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009, in Gulfport, Miss., following a lengthy illness.
She was born February 26, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio and resided in Lorain until moving to Gulfport in 2005. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain and Bethel Lutheran Church in Biloxi, Miss.
She was a seamstress and a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, dancing and traveling throughout the world. She was also a member of the Chatter Box Club and the Lunch Bunch, both in Lorain.
Mabel leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Lynn Thomas Holly of Gulfport, Miss.; her three sons, Roger (Mary) Thomas of Gulfport, Miss., Rodney (Sandra) Thomas Sr. of Rock Island, Tenn., and Keith (Lieselotte) Thomas of Louisburg, W.Va.; a stepson, Lorenzo Flanders Thomas of Detroit; daughter-in-law Petronilla Thomas-Nazario of Lorain; two sisters, Ruby (Curtis) Green of Cleveland and Ameenah (Muhklis) Shafeeq of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo W. Thomas in 2003; her parents, Pledger and Henrietta Dixon Sr.; her brother, Pledger Dixon Jr.; and her sister, Mildred Sprout (nee Dixon).
Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Ave., Lorain. Pastor Linwood Chamberlain will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
